Basecamp

Every big climb starts at basecamp. This is where people with bronchiectasis find each other — to train alongside, share research, be honest about hard days, and remind each other what's possible.

Why this exists

You shouldn't have
to figure this out alone

When you're diagnosed with bronchiectasis, the clinical system tells you what the disease is and gives you a management plan. What it doesn't give you is access to other people who are actually living it — who know what it feels like to train around a productive cough, to cancel plans during an exacerbation, to read a study at 11pm trying to understand why your body does what it does.

Basecamp exists to fill that gap. It's not a support group in the passive sense — it's an active community of people who are doing something with their diagnosis. The culture here is honest, evidence-respecting, and ambitious without being toxic. Whether you're three weeks post-diagnosis or three years into training, there's a place for you here.

How we operate

Community guidelines

The culture of a community is set early and maintained deliberately. These are the principles Basecamp is built on.

Evidence over anecdote

Share your experience freely — but when making factual claims about treatment or research, show your source. Opinion and experience are welcome; misinformation isn't.

All levels, all goals

Your 'ultra' might be a daily walk, a 5K, or an actual ultramarathon. Every goal is legitimate here. No gatekeeping on ambition.

Honest about the hard days

This community values authenticity over performance. Exacerbations, bad weeks, and setbacks are part of the reality — not things to hide.

Supportive, not prescriptive

You can share what works for you. You cannot tell others what to do medically. We're peers, not clinicians — and we respect that difference.

No miracle cures or supplement promotion

The BX community is a target for unscrupulous health marketing. Claims about cures, paid supplement promotion, or medical advice will be removed.

No negativity about seeking help

Exercise and active management are central to this community — but so is knowing when you need clinical support. Never discourage someone from seeing their doctor.
